Earlier this evening I attended the first public meeting of the Selly Oak St Marys Neighbourhood Forum. There was a good turnout from local residents and it was encouraging to see so much support for the new Forum, which will build on the good work of existing residents groups such as the Friends of Selly Oak Park and the Friends of Westhill Playing Fields.
Neighbourhood Forums are independent community organisations that bring residents together to tackle local issues and help improve their area. A longer explanation can be found on the website of the Birmingham Association of Neighbourhood Forums. They receive a small grant from the Council to cover running costs and can also bid for other funding from external organisations or the Council itself.
The Selly Oak St Marys Neighbourhood Forum will cover the area western end of the Selly Oak Ward - with Reservoir Road to the north, the boundary goes along Weoley Avenue and Weoley Park Road to Bristol Road, includes Langleys Road and the Selly Oak end of Oak Tree Lane and then goes down Harborne Lane back to Reservoir Road.
Contact details for the new Forum are still being arranged, but if you are interested in becoming involved I am happy to pass on your details if you contact me.
