The report of the cabinet member for transportation and regeneration is jolly interesting and shows some good progress upon which the council's officers are to be commended. I am pleased to see that the Big City Plan is finally nearing completion, this has dragged on for far too long since the public consultation in winter 2008/09.

I am delighted that BCC and Marketing Birmingham are working with City ID to develop a strategic framework for city centre signage. City ID has done excellent wayfinding and signage schemes for Bristol and Sheffield; I just hope Birmingham will a) see it through and b) be able to afford it as it would make a huge difference to a city centre currently filled with inconsistent signage from the last couple of decades.

Better city centre signage is certainly important. I've lost track of the number of times that I'm stopped in the street and asked for directions!

The New Street Station rebuilding will also make it physically easier to cross the city by allowing people to go through the station, rather than forcing them to go round it.
