Staffordshire Hoard Appeal Launched

The battle to save the Staffordshire Hoard

The campaign to retain the Staffordshire Hoard in the West Midlands (and Mercia!) has taken a big leap forward. David Starkey has helped to launch the £3.3 million appeal by The Art Fund, Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery and the Potteries Museum & Art Gallery in Stoke on Trent.

The Art Fund has contributed an initial £300,000 to the campaign and Birmingham City Council and Stoke on Trent Council have each donated £100,000. Events and activities will be taking place throughout the West Midlands over the next 13 weeks to raise funds to keep the Hoard in the region.

Following the exhibition in Birmingham last year, more than 80 of the most significant artefacts from the Hoard (including items never seen before) will be on display at the Potteries Museum and Art Gallery in Stoke-on-Trent between 13 February and 7 March.
