Re. Cllr Mullaney's report, I appreciate that it is a narrative report of highlights of the year and well done to all the council staff who have achieved so much. However, the selective use of statistics and absence of long term comparisons makes it very difficult to ascertain performance trends and I would question how council members can monitor efficacy and efficiency without these. I would like to see graphs of figures for national indicators etc. including comparisons with the England average. There are also few clear targets set for the next year or beyond. Maybe these appear in another type of report but as a taxpayer this report doesn't really tell me very much; it appears to have been largely cut and pasted from material supplied by different departments.
Cabinet Member portfolios do not necessarily line up with how the Council's departments are organised (and their responsibilities can change over time).
More detailed reports on various areas of the portfolio will go to the Leisure, Sport & Culture Scutiny Committee, including financial monitoring reports.
